This sumptuous house, built in 2007, offers a dreamlike family getaway in the beloved town of St. Rémy de Provence.  Lovingly crafted and appointed, with great attention paid to aesthetics and function, the house has four bedrooms, including a private master suite, sleeping eight comfortably.

A long gravel driveway leads to the home, somewhat secluded in the country yet just a few minutes' drive to St. Rémy.  From the terra cotta-tiled roof, to the shuttered windows, to the stucco exteriors, no details have been spared in recreating the classic look of an authentic Provençal country home, nor have any modern amenities been overlooked.

Inside, an attractive entry hallway leads into the living room.  Furnished with a large comfortable couch, armchairs and ottoman, the room is tastefully decorated and provides a pleasant space for gathering and relaxing indoors.  Light pours in through French doors that open onto an outdoor terrace beside the large pool; a covered patio area, equipped with brand new furniture, provides dining space for eight.

Through an arched doorway in the living room one enters into the dining room with table seating eight; the adjacent kitchen also offers seating space at an informal table with benches.  Brightly-lit, with French doors opening to the outdoor terrace, the kitchen is well designed with function and ease in mind; there is plenty of counter space and equipment to please even the most fastidious of cooks.

Off the living room, a master bedroom suite opens onto its own private patio.   Equipped with a queen-sized bed, built-in kitchenette with a small foyer/eating area and a bath with shower, this suite can serve as an extra-private bedroom or as guest quarters.

Upstairs, the three bedrooms have views of the graceful birch trees in the garden and side yards, and beyond to the scenic Alpilles mountains.  Comfortable queen-sized beds in each room are adorned with different colored toile-print bedspreads.  The two bathrooms on this floor are elegantly appointed, one with a clawfoot tub, spacious glass shower, two sinks and a separate toilet, the other with a marble-surrounded sink and tub with hand-held shower and WC.

Despite its feeling of total calm and privacy, the house is a ten minute walk to one of the most delightful towns in the south of France.  Set at the foot of the Alpilles mountains, St-Rémy-de-Provence is lovely and relaxed, particularly inspiring to artists for the quality of its light.  Van Gogh spent his last year here, in one of his most intense and prolific periods, producing such tableaux as Nuit Etoilée ("Starry Night") and Les Blés Jaunes ("Cornfield and Cypress Trees").  For those interested in Provençal culture and history, the Musée des Alpilles offers a glimpse into local folk life and arts, with a special section on Nostradamus, who was born in St-Rémy.  The flowered cloisters at St. Paul de Mausole, the Romanesque church where Van Gogh sought refuge in his last troubled days, are a beautiful sight and rich source of history.  Some of the best-preserved Roman monuments in the world are found just outside the center of town in the Roman ruins of Glanum, once a Celtic settlement,  which includes a memorial mausoleum to Caesar and Augustus, erected by their descendants in 1st- century AD.

Exploring La Chaine des Alpilles is one of the most pleasurable experiences one can have in Provence.  Beyond the lush land of poppy fields and almond and olive groves around St. Remy, these limestone hills form a stark and mesmerizing contrast against the profound blue of the illuminated Provençal sky.  Les Baux-de-Provence, perched on a barren plateau in the middle of the Alpilles, is one of the most beautiful and memorable villages in France.
