This classic Bretonne-style home in the verdant rolling hills of Brittany is wonderful for out-of-the-ordinary vacations. Built in 1817 and remodeled with care to preserve its historic details, Maison de Granit features original wood beam ceilings, thick exterior stonewalls, and terracotta tile floors. The interior is well lit with natural light from large windows and several skylights that illuminate the second floor attic-style bedrooms. Maison de Granit is a great base for exploring this intriguing but less “discovered” area of France.

On the main floor, the large living room has several sofas, assorted chairs, and a working fireplace with stone hearth. The dining room, with its stonewall, hearth, and rustic wood mantle, has a country-style wood table seating up to eight and a convenient half-size refrigerator. Adjacent to the dining room, the well-equipped kitchen includes a dishwasher, four-burner gas and electric cook top, wall oven, large refrigerator with freezer, coffee maker, toaster, microwave, and wooden worktable. There is a TV with limited reception and a CD player. Separate laundry room with washing machine and independent half bath.

Upstairs, the four cozy bedrooms have sloped ceilings.  On the north side of the house, one bedroom has warm, salmon colored walls and a king size bed;  the other has a queen size bed. The central open hall area is large enough for a single bed and small sitting area that can double as a less private, fifth bedroom. On the other side of this central hall, there are two more bedrooms, one with a queen size bed and the second, accessed through the first, with a twin bed and another king size bed. There are two baths on this floor, each with a toilet and sink, one with a shower stall and the other with a tub with hand-held shower.
  • Classic Bretonne style farmhouse
  • Hilltop location with lovely views
  • Lots of natural light from large windows and skylights
  • Original rustic wood beam ceilings, thick exterior stonewalls, and terracotta tile floors
Located just down the road from our “La Ferme Bretonne” complex, this property also features a lovely Breton landscape and the near-by hiking trail along the Elée River. It is a few miles north of the old Breton style village, Quimperlé. Here you’ll find a charming historic town center with all the necessary amenities, including restaurants, supermarkets, shops, and museums. In the wooded Aven estuary half an hour away, picturesque Pont-Aven was once a center for late 19th century artists including Gauguin. It continues to have a strong art focus with over fifty galleries and the informative Musée de Pont-Aven. Ferries to the scenic islands of Les Glénans, Belle-Ile and Ouessant are forty miles away. Several large summer festivals take place in the area, including Le Festival de Cornouailles in July and Le Festival Interceltique de Lorient in August. Ten miles to beaches.
